“Well that was unexpected.”

That is simply the best way I can sum up the way I feel about this year. When talking with my friends and coworkers I’ve shared how wild of a ride this year has been and a lot of them shared the same sentiment. Like what the heck just happened? Nothing I had planned to do this year was accomplished and if it was accomplished it certainly was not executed the way I would have imagined it. For example, when I started this year, I had grad school nowhere on my mind. That’s wild right?!? Yet now that I’ve finished my first semester of school, I can’t imagine what my life was like before. As I conclude this year I can say that 2019 taught me many things but my favorite lesson is this:

Things may not look like what you planned or thought and that’s OKAY.

I know, not very profound but still true. Life has a very funny way of teaching you exactly what you need right when you need it. 2019 can be best described as the loving friend who finds a way to get you into some impossible situation, but in the end it all works out. For some reason that makes me think of Tiffany Haddish’s character in Girls Trip. Fun, slightly annoying, but in the end you love her because she brings out the side of you that allows you to go with the flow.

Which brings me to my word for 2020. Yes I am that person that makes resolutions and even picks a word of the year. I believe in vision and goals, don’t @ me! This year I’ve chosen the word: PLAY.

Now for those of you who know me very well this word is pretty loaded and probably more of a challenge than I think. I chose this word because ya girl needs to loosen those shoulders, hop off of the overthinking train and learn how to give myself more moments of play. More adventure, creativity, and opportunities to laugh.

As I enter into my second semester of grad school, I am once again bracing myself for impact as I have no idea what school will bring but at least I know I’ll have fun while doing it :)
