Most days you can find me punching bags at a kickboxing class, using way too many emojis in my text messages, and attempting to kick my Chic-fil-a addiction.

I am mostly known for my ability to make people feel welcomed, noticed, and heard.

I love serving the world by coming alongside women in their journey to self acceptance. I offer a listening ear and give women the space to get down to the nitty gritty of what it REALLY looks and feels like to follow Jesus, to take care of oneself (emotionally, physically, and emotionally), and to find the light in all things.

The things I am most passionate about in life are growing in my relationship with God, learning how to truly love myself, and learning how to live fearlessly.

I inspire people who are seeking authenticity in their life and are in desperate need for joy and hope.

If you’re dying to hear more about me, here are five things you might not know about me:
  1. I am obsessed with Corgis
  2. I was born and raised in New Orleans
  3. I love pretty much anything vanilla scented (candles, perfumes, etc)
  4. I love naps
  5. I think winter is the best season. I’ve convinced myself I could be happy in Alaska for a few months.

What to Do When Your Confidence is Low

I have the amazing privilege to work with women. I say privilege because being a part of an all
women team is honestly just more fun and inspiring. With that privilege I also found that there is an urge to compare. Being surrounded by women is great because it pushes me to dream bigger and aim higher for my goals, but it also taps on a part of me that says I need to be better. I may want to dress as well as another coworker, have a flourishing marriage, or simply possess the leadership skills to lead a team in an more effective, but not controlling way. This comparing and striving has only lead me to pure exhaustion and quite frankly bitterness.

We all have our days where we feel less than.  It could be an exam you just failed, a promotion at work you were skipped over for, or a boyfriend who just broke up with you. And no I am not here to just tell you that you are loved by God and send you on your way. Yes of course you are loved by God (and I mean radically, beautifully loved by God), but some days there is this disconnection between what you KNOW to be true and what you actually believe about yourself. For example, I may know I am beautiful. I know that God has made me the way I am very specifically from my super coily hair to every freckle on my face, but what do I believe about myself? Well currently that changes every day.  Luckily, we have a source to rely on that is unchanging and dependable: the living Word of God.

Thankfully God has given us a great gift to combat all those sneaky lies that fill our heads from day to day. Yes I said it. Those thoughts are lies. Lies that are not from God there to leave you defeated and discouraged. Lies with a mission to steal your joy and peace. Lies that say you are not pretty enough. Not smart enough. Skinny enough. Successful enough. Well connected enough. Simply just not enough.

The sneaky thing about negative thinking is that after thinking those thoughts for so long you begin to adopt them as truth. The only way to conquer over a lie is to replace that lie with a truth. What I have been challenging myself to do is to do debunk any lie I may have about myself with a promise or truth God says about me. This allows me to not linger on the lie, but to stop it in its track when it comes. God call us to put on our full armor.
“Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes” (Ephesians 6:11).

We can longer allow ourselves to even entertain these thoughts. They are only there to steal our time and quite frankly we don’t have time for it! So here’s my suggestion. Pull out your journal (if you’re anything like me I know you have a few to choose from!) and write any lies you may still be believing about yourself. Then spend sometime in the Word finding truths about who and what God says you are. Where to start? I would start with Ephesians, but honestly you could flip open to any book of the Bible and find beautiful promises and declarations of God. The beautiful thing about God is that he is always eager to draw near to us when we draw near to Him. (James 4:8)

My current favorite truth is found in Psalm 139:13-15. I know this is a familiar verse to some, so I really loved how the Message version puts it. “Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out; you formed me in my mother’s womb. I thank you, High God-you’re breathtaking! Body and soul, I am marvelously made! I worship in adoration-what a creation!”.
So what verse or passage are you believing about yourself today? Let’s lift each other up and remind ourselves WHO WE REALLY ARE.

Keep shining,

Once a week I like to treat myself to one meal that I can truly indulge in. My favorite meal of the day is dinner, but recently I have grown to love lunch. My current obsession for lunch is a new restaurant in West Midtown called Upbeet. If you couldn’t guess by the cute and catchy name, it’s a very healthy spot that serves bowls, salads, and smoothies. When I say healthy, I mean HEALTHY. No gmos, preservatives, dairy, gluten...the whole nine yards! It’s perfect for people on the go who simply want to eat better and actually want their food to taste good! The atmosphere is very clean, fresh, and honestly I just feel healthy walking in there!

Okay, let’s get into the menu! I’m not really a salad kinda girl so I always get one of their bowls. My favorite bowl is the Guac It Out. It has brown rice, black beans, corn, jalapeños, guacamole, pico de gallo, lime squeeze, pepper jack cheese and housemade cashew lime dressing with grilled chicken. How amazing does that sound?!? This is perfect for all you Chipotle lovers out there that want to take it up a notch. What’s also great about this place is that they are very generous with portions, so definitely expect to eat twice off of this meal. Trust me you’re going to want to because you will not leave without spending at least $15 on a bowl so MAKE IT COUNT!

When I’m feeling a little bit more adventurous and want to switch it up I will usually get the Aloha Bowl. It has bamboo rice, mango, fresh jalapeños, scallions, avocado, toasted coconut, macadamia nuts and housemade ginger miso dressing with fair trade, wild-caught tuna poke. I absolutely can not do raw fish (personal preference) but I do like to switch out the poke for shrimp. This meal will leaving you feeling light, energized, and ready for a vacation to Hawaii!

Lastly, if we are really going for broke, I will also get a Matcha Lemonade to go. I know Matcha has become a really big trend over the past few years but it truly is so good! It gives you a nice boost of energy without all the jitters of coffee. The Matcha Lemonade is housemade and of course all their ingredients are organic. You won’t have to worry about this drink being too bitter or too sweet.

Now that my stomach is officially growling, I’ll stop my food obsessing there. Check back here to see what place I’ll be covering next!

How to Invite God into Your Morning Routine

I don’t know about you, but my mornings are pretty frantic. I will usually wake up, check my texts I missed from the night before, scroll Instagram for a bit, workout, shower, get dressed, eat breakfast, make my lunch and run out of the door. This rushed and frantic morning does not result in a peaceful day. Trust me. My brain is all over the place and it’s really hard for me to focus on the day before me. There are so many things demanding our attention and it’s hard to find stillness in the chaos. We have full time/part time jobs, project deadlines, relationships, and oh not to mention maintaining something of a social life. How do we gain clarity in the chaos? How can find peace in our mornings before the day grabs our full attention?

I believe the answer is found in returning to God each morning. We must come before God and seek His face.  Inviting God into your morning routine allows you to set your mind on God before anyone or anything else can. What I’ve learned is when I start my day with God, I feel more peaceful and I can really enjoy my morning. I don’t feel anxious or rushed, I feel true peace. I am hopeful about how the Lord is going to use my life to shed light on others and encourage my soul. Who wouldn’t want that!?

Here are a few tips on how to seek God before you start your day:
Ditch your morning social media fix
I know it’s tough, but this habit can be energy draining to your soul. I have had mornings where before my feet could even touch the floor I have seen what everyone else is doing and suddenly I feel like I have done nothing with myself. It’s crazy but true! What I like to do in the morning is read at least one one verse of the Bible before I start my day. The Bible App is a great resource for this. You can even set a notification on your phone to send you a daily verse synced with when you usually wake up. You’re going to reach for your phone anyway, so why not reach for something that is life giving, not life draining.
Psalm 19:7 The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul. The statues of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple.

Get your praise on
Another fun way to invite God into your routine is by listening to some worship music. I will usually listen to worship music while I’m in the shower or as I am doing my makeup. This gives the mind an opportunity to focus solely on Jesus. You’re not thinking about the presentation in class you have to do or how you’re dreading your shift at work, but your focus shifts to God’s goodness. I recommend making your own playlist. This is perfect for when you are just waking up and don’t have time to search for that one song that get you going. There is some amazing worship music out there that is perfect for any part of your day. Here’s my current favorite playlist.
1.      Crowns- CASS
2.      Nothing but the Blood (feat Deitrick Haddon)
3.      Illuminate (Na Na Na Na)- CASS
4.      All My Love –Hollyn
5.      Wildfire- Fuse
6.      Count It- Jor’dan Armstrong
7.      Not Today- Hillsong United
8.      Unknown- MOSAIC MSC
9.      Let Your Glory Fall- Kari Jobe
10.   Any song on Still Believe (Live)- Kim Walker Smith!!!
Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.

Write a gratitude list.
This has become my favorite new daily practice. There is so much peace and joy in having a grateful spirit. Giving thanks to God not only magnifies His name, but it also minimizes our worries and problems. I suggest writing a list of ten things each day. Ten is a great number because it stretches you to really find the good in your day no matter how small or trivial it may seem.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

And lastly but MOST importantly…PRAY!
I know this seems pretty obvious, but I’ll be honest and say praying in the morning has been very hard for me to do. I grew up thinking you always say your prayers before you go to bed. Never did I think that God could want to hear from me twice in one day! What a radical thought!? Sometimes I will spend a few minutes just praying over my day. Sometimes it could be asking for forgiveness or confessing sin to Him. Some mornings I am stomped and I sit in silence with Him to see what He has to say to me. I also created a prayer journal. For you over thinkers out there, this was a great way for me to organize my prayers/thoughts and also a great tool to see how God has been faithful in the things I am praying for.  Also it’s just another great excuse to buy a cute journal! :D
I’ll leave you with this verse from Galatians. “Let us not become weary in doing good , for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up” (Galatians 6:9). You are kicking butt girl! You simply taking time to read this means that you want to grow in your faith and you are killing it! The journey is hard, but you are still fighting. That means so much. Please never forget how encouraged and loved you are by the creator of the Universe!
Feel free to comment and include your favorite way to connect with God in the morning. I would love to hear how you start your day!

Keep shining,
